4WD Training
Parkley Off Road has a multitude of training options. As well, the rural unsealed road allows for Unit standards qualification in both on and off road requirements. Ask us about the requirements for needing Unit Standards.
With zones set up across the fields to benefit the instructor and the course participants, Parkley Off Road training areas are tightly cropped, giving zoned areas for different teaching needs. Learning from the mistakes at other venues often using tracks that can find the participants spread geographically out of sight of each other and the instructor, all areas used at Parkley are easily managed that provides a safe environment. This allows the instructor to give much more personalised attention to individuals while keeping a close eye on the others in the group. Importantly too, the course members can watch each other and the vehicle body language [reaction] in various traction or slope conditions. It usually gets a laugh or gentle ribbing between the participants, when things don’t go to plan, that stimulates discussion and questions all aiding and cementing the learning.
With more use now of Hybrid vehicles and pure EV’s Parkley Off Road complex has been engineered to allow for training specific areas for them without damage.
Most have lower ground clearance and poor or no protection from water crossings deeper than the mid level of their wheels at best.
They usually lack advanced traction systems and mostly front driven with no mechanical drive to the rear wheels. This means when 4WD is needed the inertia required of the rear drive simply is not available compared to the torque multiplication a true low range petrol or diesel power plant has on offer. Recognizing that, Parkley allows these vehicles to be safely tested or trained in with complete safety following the instructor guidance.
